Its black Monday for Uber drivers, owners offering Uber service will now have problem renewing their road tax if they continue flaunting the directive from SPAD, Malaysia’s public transport authority. SPAD has found a way to apprehend these drivers offering illegal taxi service through the Uber app, without the need to go undercover.

After a vehicle has been identified coupled with video and photo evidence of their operations, SPAD officers will send out notice to the owners to attend an ‘interview’ with the department. If they fail to attend or ignore the notice, SPAD will send another notice and if they still continue to ignore, the authority will seek all avenue including coordinating with Road Transport Department to blacklist the vehicle from renewing the road tax.

Its a no way out situation for Uber and GrabCar drivers, with the full brunt of the system being used to nab the illegal taxi service offenders, and according to a report in theSun, to date SPAD has impounded 145 private cars including 44 Uber and 97 GrabCar since October last year for offering the illegal taxi service.
