My last visit to Vegas, the choice of transport was either Uber or Lyft, and nine out of ten drivers I had a ride with were immigrants, making a full time living commuting visitors around Sin City.

So it comes at no surprise when Trump signed the executive order yesterday banning all immigrants entering the US with immediate effect, especially those from Muslim countries, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick reacted. In an open letter to all drivers, the CEO accused President Trump’s action as an unjust immigration and travel ban and will be standing up for whats right. The ride-share service depends mostly on its immigrant drivers and will surely affect the service when the ban takes effect. But the new policy who will impact even citizens who are from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen and who live in the US but have left the country, will not be able to return for 90 days. A cause to worry for both who left US and Uber.

T0o manage the situation, Uber will be taking steps to  mitigate the situation with providing a round the clock legal support for drivers who are trying to get back into the country with lawyers and immigration experts. Offer compensation to drivers for their lost earnings and urge the government to reinstate the right of U.S. residents to travel—whatever their country of origin—immediately on top of a $3 million legal defense fund to help drivers with immigration and translation services.

It will be interesting to see the unfolding impact of Trumps actions as already its reverberating across the nation, mostly seen with negativity. The President has been signing of executive orders willfully without any consultation, just making do with the promises he made during the election run. Now the world can sit back and watch the repercussion which is causing more unrest internally than outside.
