Have you ever wanted to get the full Apple experience without spending a ludicrous amount of money? Well, now may be your only chance. Here’s why.
A lot Macbook Pro who bought their machines around 2011-2013 will begin to feel a little slower because they mostly came with hard drives. Hard drives in laptops slow down after a couple of years, especially when moved around during operation. Most will assume that laptops just slow down with age, but even a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro with a Core i5 processor can keep up with most modern processes.
From our experience, older Core 2 Duo Macbook Pros might not be worth the trouble, as they are not compatible with the latest MacOS and lag severely behind on performance. Anything Sandy Bridge era and newer should be alright for at least another 2 years.
Plus, Macbook Pro laptops made in the 2011-2013 era are user-upgradable. So don’t worry if the battery, RAM, or storage needs to be upgraded. In fact, here are a few things we recommend changing and how much they cost on Lelong.com.my.
- Battery (RM130-225). These are not necessary to change, but if you find that the battery life is less than an hour long or not working at all, you might want to do this. If mobile use is not an immediate priority then you can hold out on this upgrade while you use the Macbook plugged in.
- RAM (RM300 or less for 8GB). To be honest, you can make do with 4GB. Users who plan to use it for light gaming or movie editing should get at least 8GB. 16GB is demonstrably unnecessary, even for power users.
- SSD (RM400 for 250GB). This is actually the single most important upgrade you can make to your Macbook Pro. In fact, this should be on the top of the list. Get an SSD, and carefully replace the existing HDD with it. If you need the extra storage, step 4 is what you need to look at.
- Swap the Optical Disk Drive for a 2nd SATA HDD Caddy (RM30) + 1TB hard drive (RM250). Be real, you don’t need to burn or read DVDs in 2017. swap out that old tech for a second hard drive slot.
