If you’ve been using Uber for your primary mode of transport, there must been occasions where you’ll be peering through a sea of crowd looking for your ride wondering if that’s your ride. And if its at night, matching the number plate with the one on your screen gets a tad more tricky. Uber now seeks to eliminate this predicament.
The ride sharing pioneer has come up with a sleek solution for this by integrating a hardware, a colour beacon tagged on the drivers vehicle. How it works is, Uber Beacon goes on a driver’s windshield and uses color-pairing technology to help drivers and riders more quickly connect at night, particularly at crowded venues. With this technology, riders can personalise their pickup by selecting from an endless number of colors for the Beacon to glow on their driver’s vehicle. And as the vehicle approaches, the rider will see both colour match on the app icon.
First introduced in Seattle last year, the success is now being replicated in other parts of the country and will be a standard feature in 2017 across more cities around the world.
