Touch n’ Go eWallet Will Soon Be Able To Transfer Funds To Banks AND Other eWallets Thanks To DuitNow QR

TNG Digital have announced that their Touch ‘n Go eWallet will be adopting PayNet’s DuitNow QR. If you weren’t aware, this is Malaysia’s National QR standard which aims to unify all cashless payments and eWallet QR codes displayed at merchant outlets.

Touch ‘n Go eWallet will also be apart of the DuitNow ecosystem, which means it’ll allow for interoperability between other cashless platforms and eWallets. So far, the DuitNow ecosystem has 40 banks with 9 of them already offering DuitNow QR in their banking applications. The rest of the 38 banks, eWallets and non-bank acquirers are expected to adopt the DuitNow QR system over the next 6 to 9 months.

Starting July 2020, Touch ‘n Go eWallets will be available on DuitNow and they’re planning to transition all of their merchants to the DuitNow QR code, which is nice. Mainly because with the DuitNow QR code will only need to show one QR code for most of eWallet operators and cashless platforms. This is actually a good thing because it makes the payment method even more so seamless.

And if (more like when) everyone joins it, that’ll be when I can say that cashless payments and eWallets are truly sustainable for consumers. But of course, this means your eWallet or online banking app will need to support the DuitNow QR standard.

Another boon for Touch ‘n Go eWallet users will also be able to transfer funds instantly to other eWallets and bank accounts. That’s pretty cool, and I can definitely see that coming in handy. Overall, a win for cashless payments in Malaysia.
