Taika Waititi’s name may not ring any bells to you right now but the dude is on top of the world at the moment. The actor/director, who voiced Korg in Thor Ragnarok, directed Jojo Rabbit and is directing Thor: Love and Thunder won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for Jojo Rabbit recently and immediately took a swipe at his favourite tech company shortly after leaving the stage.

The multi talented director was asked by reporters about the upcoming Writers’ Guild of America negotiations, in which he took the opportunity to dunk on Apple, but more specifically, the company’s keyboards in which he says are “Impossible to write on.”

He is of course referring to Apple’s controversial butterfly keyboard, which drew the ire of pretty much everyone upon its release. “They’ve gotten worse. It makes me want to go back to PCs” he said, which says a lot about the state of things for Apple right now. To think that the company can be subject to being used as a punchline at the Oscars is unheard of but that’s just how it is these days for Apple.

The butterfly keyboard was supposed revolutionize the way we type but the lower profile of the keys, which allowed for an overall slimmer laptop has resulted in “Sticky” keys, where letters repeat and at times don’t respond or pop out of place. The New Zealand native also went on to emphasize his preference for deeper key travel and stronger resistance, even going as far as to cite inflaming issues with his shoulder and tendons, which trust me, can be an issue when you’re spending lots of time writing.

It’s worth noting though that Apple has recently launched a new 16-inch MacBook pro with a more old school scissor style switch keyboard.
