For those of you who thought after Pakatan Harapan took over the government the much touted realignment of voting age to 18 will be sorted, well guess what its not.

The Election Commission has issued a statement its still studying the process, and would probably have it ready only much later. It is expected the 18 age voting right could only take effect in 2021. So, all you young eager Malaysians just have to wait another year before you can cast your votes.

Recently, there has been a social media post inviting all those who are 18 to register themselves as voters, quickly prompting EC Chairman Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun to issue a statement, according to him the EC  system is not ready to make those changes. Malaysians 18 to 20, can only register once all the other processes are ready and complete, including the amendment to the Election law, new SOPs and infrastructure. Which the body is currently working on.

However, if a snap election is called before July 2021, we fear the voice of the young will still be unheard, PH has been pushing for bringing the age limit down from 21, despite the bill being passed in Parliament, implementation is under a long process.

With Malaysians in the 18-20 age bracket entering the voting register, the dynamics of our politics could change forever. This could be the reason its being dragged some quarters suspect.
