Life Saving Portal For Job Seekers, Over 900 Jobs Available

For those who dont know, SOCSO or Social Security Organisation has a job portal that allows the unemployed to find jobs, especially in a climate like this a one stop portal where employees including government agencies could post vacancies for free.

Covid -19 has completely turned every nation upside down, there is sector in the nation which is safe, since all countries impacted by the virus had to go into lockdown, many company’s had to suffer economically. This led to excessive cost cutting measures to survive, causalities in this process were employment, staff had to be furloughed or retrenched.

In Malaysia the scenario isn’t much different, unemployment rate is set to hit 5.5% by end of the year, this does not take into consideration of the many graduates entering the workforce, further adding to the burden. Its only apt, SOCSO plays a bigger role in its objective, the newly revamped site offers those impacted by the pandemic to find jobs even if its not suitable for them.

Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) executive director Datuk Shamsuddin Bardan said the upgrading of the portal would benefit 50,000 unemployed workers and it was deemed the right move considering the current unemployment rate of 3.9 per cent or 610,000 as recorded in March.

Check on the portal (www.Perkeso.gov.my) one needs to click on the EIS Jobs tab and will be directed to page that allows you to seek jobs based on states. Once the preferred state is selected, job listings are presented in alphabetical order of company’s. Job requirement and salary is shown for easier matching, at the moment of search we saw 226 jobs available in Selangor alone.

According to worker welfare agencies, for the portal to be efficient, it should be monitored from month to month so as not to give misleading information on the current situation of the job market. Employers should be able to access candidates’ input on the database, so they don’t have to fill out new forms. It also should be accessible to both employers and workers to advertise for jobs and to match the workers who look for jobs.
