With Google Stadia coming up next month which will be available for $10 in the U.S., it’s only natural everyone is gearing up to be the dominant games subscription service this holiday season. With that, PlayStation Now has reduced it’s subscription price to $9.99/month from $19.99/month to match them.
Not only that, but they’ve added some pretty sick games to their subscription lineup, like GTA V and God Of War, making it a more attractive offer overall. This is what they had to say about the update.
“We currently have the largest game library of any console game subscription service, with more than 800 games available. Starting today, we’re adding more blockbuster content that includes some of the most highly played and critically acclaimed PS4 games ever. Check out the first wave of new content below, which is available for three months;
God of War
Grand Theft Auto V
inFAMOUS Second Son
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”
So these games will be on offer for 3 months, and they already have quite an impressive lineup of games of 800 games. What’s not to like? Well the truth is that this service isn’t available in Malaysia, and it hasn’t been since 2014. Actually, it’s only available in the US, Canada, UK, EU, and Japan, and pretty much isolates a lot of their player base in a lot of parts in Asia.

But with Google Stadia, which isset to launch in November 2019 in the UK, US and Canada for $9.99, they might be the first to penetrate the Malaysian market. Considering Google’s familiarity with the area (more so that PlayStation it seems), they might just be that. But if you were curious about game subscription services, these aren’t the only ones.
But What Else?
Right now, there’s Microsoft Game Pass, Nintendo Switch Online, Google Play Pass, and Apple Arcade, which all follow a similar $10 or less price point a month. But the most common feature amongst them, is that most of them aren’t available in Malaysia.
Boy does it suck to be a gamer in Malaysia, especially with all these services popping up, and us not being able to use it. But from what I can see, game subscriptions might just be the future of what gaming will look like. Most companies are adopting the standard, even without any prior game experience like Apple and Google. It is an attractive offer considering that companies will get a monthly fee, regardless of if the player buys a game or not. And in return, gamers get a lot games, without having to pay for the full title price.
You can play a game for a month, finish it, and try something else. That’s the beauty of it. It’s a win-win situation overall, except for gamers where this isn’t available. Like us. Right now. God this sucks.
