Beware Agents Offering Government Grants Online

Government agency under the Prime Ministers office tasked to increase involvement of  bumiputera businesses in government projects Teraju, has warned members of the public of scammers and dubious agents pretending to be able to hand out contracts for sums.

There has been recent reports of false messages that have been circulating around social media, short messaging service (SMS), WhatsApp, face-to-face encounters as well as through unsolicited correspondence that claim to be send out by Teraju. This comes after the agency noticed scams calling for the public to apply for government grants through commission agents who have copied the agency’s   brand in their communications design. It also mentioned that there are agents or syndicates actively promoting such scrupulous services, offering assistance to the public who are seeking grants or government financial support.

Teraju have to date handed out RM108 billion in various schemes to bumiputera businessmen be it for capital, setting up up new business, value creation and private direct investments. Certain groups have decided to take advantage and try to manipulate the system, this compelled the agency to issue a statement to confirm it has not appointed nor endorsed any third parties to facilitate such applications.

It also assured appropriate measures are being taken to curb such scams any further, however cooperation from the public and media channels are sought to assist as well.
