Review: TDK Trek Max

Portable Bluetooth speakers are great when you want to bring the noise outdoors and some are built rugged, which makes them a great companion to carry along when on an adventure in the Great Outdoors. The TDK TREK Max is one such product, featuring an IP64 rating that keeps it running on the beach without a hitch. Doesn’t hurt that it belts out solid tunes too!

Hardy Build
The TREK Max does not adopt any odd shapes or form factors, sticking to a relatively safe cuboid shape, not unlike a big box of chocolates. Use of glossy plastic is minimal here, with most of the TREK Max being covered in metal speaker mesh. The top of the TREK Max – where the buttons are – comprises a rubberised soft touch surface with buttons marked with slight dents.

Sweet Loudmouth
The TREK Max uses Bluetooth 2.1 to connect to your device but if you don’t fancy scrolling through a list of Bluetooth devices to jack onto, then just use your NFC-enabled device instead for a quick and painless linking process. Once connected, the TREK Max pumps out your music collection with no distortion. It’s pretty loud too: at 75%, it managed to fill the editorial side of the office with varied songs spanning from different eras.
