Google Pixel owners can now take better pictures at night with the new Night Sight feature. The feature was rolled out with the low-light photo editing software Google had released. The tech company incorporated A.I. into the new feature hoping to to make the normally dark pictures taken at concerts, bars, or camping trips vivid and bright without relying on a source of light like a camera flash.

Google has also placed a limit of one-second exposures thus with the phone on a tripod or up to 15 brief exposures while holding the phone, the result is all the snaps going into one final photo. The tech giant is also incorporating new, more sophisticated learning-based algorithm that is trained to discard tint casts by unnatural light. Furthermore, the software is also looking at the Fast Fourier Color Constancy method where the log-chrominance histogram of each photo shifts with varying tints.

If the phone detects that a scene is dark enough, it’ll bring out a suggestion to try night mode where users can tap on suggestion, and then it mostly takes over from there. The only controls offered to the user are tap-to-focus and the usual exposure slider. The Night Sight feature also extends to the to the front of the phone benefiting selfie enthusiats.
