Taiwan is stoking big brother China’s anger with the purchase of not one or two but sixty six F-16 fighter jets in what many are regarding as the largest arms purchase by the island nation.

Known for its friendly people, high tech products and lately the biggest export being Boba Tea, Taiwan despite being an independent country is still regarded as part of Middle Kingdom by Beijing. Any international relation or acceptance as it being independent will be seen as opposing China and indirectly challenging its claims over the nation.

US in its part, sees Taiwan as ally and has been backing Taiwan on its stand against China supplying armory and military weapons against a feared strike by the PLA. The sales of the fighter jets or more specifically the F-16 Vipers made by American company Lockheed is in a way seen as a counter balance in the Pacific against the rising military strengths of China. Orders to conclude was said to have come from the US Defense Department as part of Trump’s deal with Taiwan. China has been giving warnings over any involvement by the US but this has gone unheeded, the tension went ballistic when a high ranking officer from Trump’s administration paid a visit making it the first in four decades.

Beijing was obviously furious prompting its military outfit to send fighter jets to fly low across the border lines between China and Taiwan as if to let the government there know its displeasure. The sale comes at a juncture where threats had been made by China asking Taiwan not to cross the Red Line a term used on calls of independence.

Looks the line is crossed and Taiwan will soon be flying over them.
