A new report just appeared, with news that TM may be offering a new tier in their Unifi offerings, with this tier to be called Unifi Lite. This new product is said to bolster the current Unifi Advanced and Pro packages that are available to the public.

Said to be available in both High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and the Sub-Urban Broadband (SUBB) areas – the new tier will offer customers speeds of up to 10Mbps, which is higher than the current Streamyx with HyppTV package. The expected speeds of the package will be 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload.

According to an image on Lowyat.net, the new package will have similar offerings as the old Unifi VIP 10 package, sans HyppTV and telephony services bundled together. The former may be offered as an ala carte service while the lack of the latter can be supplemented by just plugging in a phone into the VDSL modem, with a service charge of 20sen per minute of call.

As Malaysia gears up to have more people on the broadband wagon, it is important that more people are getting onto broadband infrastructure – especially in the sub-urban areas. Malaysia on average clocked a speed of 8.2Mbps in quarter four of 2016, which is an increase of over 50% year on year. We are however still behind our neighbours Thailand and Singapore which clocks at 13.3Mbps and 20.2Mbps respectively. We may see a change in 2017 as more people subscribe to higher broadband speeds to satisfy their needs for better internet connection to the world.
