Last week, we reported that Steam had broken a record for the amount of concurrent users online. And just like we said then, this was something that was bound to happen. This will be third time, in the span of three weeks where they’v set, and broken their own records. Makes sense considering the current climate of the world, with most countries on lockdown and people self-isolating.

Two weekends ago, they logged 20,313,476 concurrent users on March 15th. The following weekend, they broke the record and had 22,678,529 concurrent users online.  This weekend, on the 29th March they’ve broken this same record once again, with a peak of 23,434,674 users online and had 7,246,495 users in-game.

Just as a reference, the most users that Steam ever had concurrently was 18.8 million, which was back in February 2nd. So it is quite a major leap, with almost 5 million more users on their platform.

The Top 10 list of games being played in the past 24 hours was also quite surprising. Counter Strike: Global Offensive logged in a record-breaking 1,123,002 players in game at #1. Football Manager 2020 at #8 also registered an all time-high of 189,464 which is undoubtedly surprising. Seems the Football Manager series is not to be trifled with.

That being said, we’re likely to see even more records breaking as lockdowns worldwide continue, including in Malaysia. But really, it shows the adoption rate of PC gaming and how fast it’s increasing. Maybe people who previously were not gamers, decided to check out Steam in this period of isolation, and started gaming regularly. You never know. There’s a lot people will do when they’re home, alone, and isolated.

Maybe this will lead to a rise average PC gamers, which is good. More gamers means more people to play against which in turn means, faster wait times for online games. Which is very good. We should probably expect to see this record broken once again in the following weeks, so let’s see just how many gamers Steam can get on.
