Spotify is now rolling out their latest feature to their Premium users, which allows for people to control what music is playing in real-time with playback control.

The feature, Group Sessions is rolling out into beta today and for now only works between Spotify Premium users. However, based on how they’ve described the feature, we’re not sure on whether this will work between Premium users at a distance.

“Today, Spotify is launching a beta version of Group Session, an evolving feature that allows a group of two or more Premium users in the same space to share the control for their listening session with others via a Spotify Code. In addition to real-time listening, the feature will offer shared queue control and collaboration for the listening group.”

How it works exactly, is via a scannable Spotify Code from the app where two or more users can scan to gain access to playback control. Hosts and guests both will be able to play, skip and select tracks to play in the queue, and add on music to the list.

The queue will be updated in real time, and the session will end after an hour of inactivity. As far as we know, there isn’t a limit to how many users can join in on a session, so for now, you might be able to add in everybody you know with a Spotify Premium subscription into a Group Session and collaboratively create a playlist.

It isn’t a huge update, but a very welcome one at that. Sometimes you just don’t want to play music, but people have forced you into the DJ role, so this at the very least, takes the pressure off that.
