Sony has introduced its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, in Malaysia, promising a pro-level camera experience powered by AI and premium multimedia features drawn from its Alpha cameras, Walkman audio players and BRAVIA televisions.
The Xperia 1 VII debuts innovative ‘AI Camerawork’ and ‘Auto Framing’ features that allow users to capture smooth, well-framed videos—even without actively monitoring the screen. Using posture estimation and subject tracking technology, the device maintains stable composition during movement, making it possible to film like a professional without specialised skills.
Its triple rear camera setup includes a new 16mm ultra wide-angle lens with a larger 48MP 1/1.56-inch sensor, enabling high-quality night and macro photography. With 2x optical zoom at 24mm/48mm, and a telephoto lens offering 85mm to 170mm optical zoom, the Xperia 1 VII delivers versatility for wide and close-up shots alike.
Audio performance has also received a significant upgrade. Drawing on technology from Sony’s Walkman series, the device supports enhanced wired and wireless playback through ‘DSEE Ultimate’, providing high-resolution sound even from compressed sources. Stereo speakers have been fine-tuned to deliver improved clarity across the frequency range.
The device’s 6.5-inch display, influenced by BRAVIA television tech, adjusts automatically to lighting conditions through a rear-facing light sensor, delivering optimal brightness and colour in any environment. Under sunlight, its ‘Sunlight Vision’ feature ensures visibility remains high.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the Xperia 1 VII boasts a 40% improvement in AI, CPU and GPU performance, enabling faster processing with lower battery drain. With Sony’s Processing Optimization enabled, users can expect up to two days of use on a single charge. It supports four OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
Accessibility and sustainability were also considered. Sony has integrated enhanced TalkBack support, including sound and vibration-based orientation aids for camera use. Packaging is now fully plastic-free, and the device contains recycled and plant-based materials, including SORPLAS resins.
The Xperia 1 VII will be available in Malaysia from mid-July 2025 in Slate Black, Moss Green and Orchid Purple. A matching Style Cover with Stand will also be sold separately.
