Straying away from the fitness band market for a bit, Fitbit introduces its first ever smartwatch in the shape of the Fitbit Ionic. This is in conjunction with two new accessories from Fitbit to make working out all the more better – the Fitbit Flyer as well as the Fitbit Aria 2.
Building on Fitbit’s health and fitness expertise, the Ionic features a new relative Sp02 sensor, giving you deeper insights and readings into your health. It estimates your blood oxygen levels, which can also track new indicators about your health, like sleep apnea for example.
The Ionic also comes with a new and enhanced PurePulse heart rate tracker, promising greater accuracy during workouts like cycling, intervals and running. It also promises to give a more accurate reading for calorie burn, allowing you to plan your workout accordingly. You will also be able to optimise on the intensity of your training with real-time heart rate zones and you can even keep track of your resting heart rate 24/7.
To ensure you get the most out of your workouts, the Ionic comes with its own personal trainer, the Fitbit Coach. This feature provides step-by-step instructions for seven-minute workouts, 10-minute abs and Treasure Chest, to name a few. It can also curate specifically-targeted workouts for you, based on the feedback you provide.
Of course, the most common workout is running, which makes the Ionic the go-to device. its Run Detect feature loops in the built-in GPS tracking so you can afford to leave your smartphone at home and just go. It provides real-time pace and distance; it’ll pause when you take a breather and it’ll automatically continue when you start running.
You can also take the Ionic for a swim as it is water resistant up to 50 meters. There is also an industry-leading lap counting feature, which will be able to accurately track the amount of laps you’ve done in the pool. You will also be able to see your exercise duration alongside the amount of calories burned during your swim.
What makes the Ionic an iconic device is its battery life, which is capable of lasting up to five days on a single charge. It also promises up to 10 hours with GPS turned on with music playing, allowing itself to last for the better part of the day.
Other notable features of the Ionic includes Fitbit Pay, the company’s new cashless payment system, which allows the Ionic to adopt a pay-wave system with NFC technology. This means you can pay for products and services through the Ionic without the need for your wallet. The Ionic also comes with 2.5GB of internal storage space, allowing you to store up to 300 songs on it.
The Ionic also stays connected to your smartphone, giving you all your notifications. From social media apps like Facebook and Instagram to Google apps like Gmail, you will be kept up to date through the Ionic without even looking at your smartphone.
The Fitbit Ionic is now retailing at RM1,399 and is already available across all major retail partners like Harvey Norman and All IT Hypermarket to name a few. The Fitbit Ionic comes in three colourways – a silver gray tracker and clasp with a blue gray band; a smoke gray tracker and clasp with a charcoal band; and a burnt orange tracker and clasp with a slate blue band.

The Fitbit Aria 2 is a Wi-Fi Smart Scale that gives you accurate readings of your body’s composition, including weight, body fat percentage, lean mass and BMI. The Aria 2 can be easily set up with your smartphone’s Bluetooth connection and by syncing your data with the Fitbit app, it turns into a one-stop space for all your data.
The Fitbit Flyer and the Fitbit Aria 2 are now available with a RM590 and RM620 price tag respectively. These items are readily available at all major outlets, including Harvey Norman and All IT Hypermarket to name a few.
