Samsung Malaysia, along with Shopee have teamed up to bring the Galaxy M20 as their first online-exclusive model. The phone is a mid-segment smartphone and is also the first of the Galaxy M series smartphones to debut in Malaysia. The phone will feature a 5000mAh battery, 6.3″ FHD screen, 19:5:9 screen ratio, and 4GB RAM with 64GB of storage. It will be available in two colours, Charcoal Black and Ocean Blue. But the kicker about the phone is that it will be priced below RM1,000.
The phone is going to be launched with Shopee in conjunction with Samsung’s Super Brand Day on the e-commerce site. The Regional Managing Director of Shopee, Ian Ho says people are comfortable with purchasing big ticket items online.
“Consumers these days are more comfortable buying big ticket items like smartphones online, and that is because of the security and value platform like ours bring to the table. It also helps when industry giants like Samsung place their trust on us to market and sell their products, what more exclusively.”
The phone will also feature a dual rear camera setup. A 13MP main camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture ultra-wide angle lens. And with this, Samsung is bringing a mid-range smartphone to market. With a price point of RM1,000 below, it seems like you’ll get the bang for your buck here especially with a brand like Samsung.
But this is more indicative of industry trend, where companies are manufacturing cheaper devices, because people just aren’t going to shell out too much money for their devices anymore. And I for one, am all for it.
