Remember when we were small (some until they ‘re adults), our mom will always say “so if your friend jump off the cliff, you also follow?” whenever we are following our friends’ words? This is exactly the same story. In this case, Samsung is the child who is following the friend to jump off the cliff.
Apple has received mockeries and memes as they removed the charging bricks from its iPhones. The mockeries are not just came from the netizens but also their rivals as well. Funny enough, those remarks are the one who made the competitors followed the footsteps.
The words have been flying around for quite some time that Samsung is to dismiss the chargers from their phone way before the iPhone 12 and Galaxy S21. A Facebook post mocking the gesture is also made implying Samsung would never do that.
The vice versa happened instead. The Galaxy S21 line was revealed without charger and earphones. Even Patrick Chomet, the EVP and Head of the Customer Experience Office at Samsung has assured it.
“We believe that the gradual removal of charger plugs and earphones from our in-box device packaging can help address sustainable consumption issues and remove any pressure that consumers may feel towards continually receiving unnecessary charger accessories with new phones, ” claimed Chomet.
The company also added that as it has been executing USB-C type charging ports since 2017 hence those older chargers can still be compatible with the latest Galaxy phones, tablets, etc. However, Samsung is doing this gradually so probably not all of their new devices will be shipped without the chargers.
Will this mean Galaxy Note 21 will be another flagship by Samsung to not have charger or earphones? It’s a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question.
Maybe in 20 years or probably less, chargers will be only something we can see in the museum, next to the public phones.
