Samsung Malaysia has been on the look out for a new lead to head the Mobile Business division ever since the previous head Lee Jui Siang was reposted to Singapore. After a short couple months, it seems they have found their man with the appointment of Mr Liew Kian Meng as Head of IT and Mobile Business.

Tapped from main competitor Apple, Mr Liew was the Country Sales Lead for Apple Malaysia and has over 25 years in the telecommunications industry before joining Samsung. He will be responsible in evolving the business strategies for the company’s mobile division and also monitor and drive the company’s performance in the region.

Mr Liew is known for his extensive experience in the sales and channel development; armed with expertise in managing sales of electronic goods as well as planning, building and executing strategic business relationships with distributors and partners. The appointment comes timely as the smartphone division seeks to reestablish itself as a prominent player in the premium and mid range segment and at the same time stave off strong competition from aggressive Chinese brands.

Samsung has been losing grounds in total shipment locally and the no-show by Note 7 was also a blow for sales, however with likes of Galaxy S8 and S8+ including next weeks launch of Note 8 the outlook looks promising.
