It’s no surprise that the current Covid-10 pandemic has hit the smartphone industry hard. But now, after some insider information courtesy of SamMobile, it seems that the most pricey of Samsung’s Galaxy S20 lineup, the S20 Ultra, is their most sought out smartphone.
Sources close to one of Samsung’s imaging hardware suppliers, MCNEX, are claiming that Samsung is ramping up production of their 40MP selfie camera, and 12MP ultra-wide camera modules. The reason this is indicating a better sales projection for the S20 Ultra, is because these are the camera modules used by the highly-priced smartphone. Meaning, there’s a higher demand for the S20 Ultra than previously believed.
To me, that’s pretty surprising considering the RM4999 price tag, and previous analysts who predicted the S20 or S20+ as Samsung’s best seller. Considering the value the less powerful S20 and S20+ have, it seemed as though they were set to dominate the stage. Though, take this less so as an indication of the S20 Ultra’s success and more so on the fact that people are willing to pay for a higher priced device. Which is the most surprising factor of it all.
I guess they were able to successfully pull off their S20 Ultra’s 100x Space Zoom gimmick. I’m more so concerned on what this means as a whole for the industry. Now that Samsung probably knows that they can efficiently price their devices higher, we could possibly look at a rise in other devices’s pricing strategies. Please for the love of God, don’t copy this.
