Netflix recently added a feature that will enable one to set a passcode, allowing each individual profile to set their own for both its website and app.

While it’s a given that anyone holding a Netflix account will have a password, the profiles within the account itself doesn’t.

That’s where this feature comes to play, as it allows one to only allow access to a profile after entering a specific passcode.

Enabling the passcode lock is simple, but is unfortunately only available on its website and not the app. Once you set it, though, your app will demand your passcode too.

All you have to do is simply:

• Log-in to your Netflix on your web browser.
• Hover over to the Profile picture on the right-hand side, and click ‘Account’.
• Navigate over to the ‘Profile and Parental Controls’ section.
• Click on your profile and select ‘Profile Lock’.
• Enter the Netflix account’s password, and then set your passcode.

It’s a fairly simple and useful process… though it’s somewhat counterproductive.

If the point of you doing this was to prevent your family or friends whom you share the Netflix account with to not go into your account, then this doesn’t necessarily fulfill that. They could just check and view the passcode set for the profile.

Though, of course, family/ friends should just respect you’ve locked your profile and not snoop for the passcode.

What it effectively does, however, is to prevent others outside of your Netflix circle from accessing your account.

Say, for example, you logged in to Netflix on a public computer and forgot to log out. The next person who checks in discovers it.  He’d think he could access it but will be disappointed to find a passcode is required.

It’s scenarios like those where the feature becomes very useful. Apart from that, for parents with children, this adds another layer of protection to prevent their kids from viewing mature content, for sure this time.

While the Kid profile is easily accessible, so are the other profiles on Netflix. You can tell your kid to never touch Mummy or Daddy’s profiles, but often than not kids ‘rebel’ and go in for a sneak peek.

Adding a passcode effectively prevents that, and your kids certainly won’t know the Netflix account’s password unless you told them. Why would you though, right?
