Samsung must have thought long and hard before deciding how to package its new Galaxy A8 and A8+, which the company has just announced. Keeping the lucky number for the last model for the year, the A8 series goes against the contrary with three cameras – two on the front and one at the rear.

The series will join other popular smartphones targeted at mid-range consumers, who wants a powerful device without paying a hefty amount demanded by flagships. Clearly for the fans of selfies, the A8 and A8+ feature a dual camera setup with a q6-megapixel + 8-megapixel combination, supported with an F/1.9 aperture. Both models will also enjoy the benefit of having the Infinity Display technology on its screens.

With differing screen sizes of 5.6-inch and 6.0-inch with FHD SuperAMOLED, the Infinity Display creates a larger perception but overall appearance of the devices is kept smaller. Samsung is only giving 4GB of RAM and made two versions of either 32 or 64GB storage with microSD slots available for both models. Beside the screen size, the other difference between them is the battery; the A8+ carries a 3,500mAh power pack while the A8 has 500mAh less.

Other features include IP68 dust and water resistance, the A8 series will also be the first in the class to support Gear VR. Samsung will be making the models available in early January 2018.

Other features for Samsung’s latest Galaxy A series includes IP68 dust and water resistance, something that has become a norm with Samsung devices. Samsung Pay will also come with the devices with the help of Near Field Communication (NFC) and Magnetic Source Transmission (MST) technology.

Both the Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8+ will be available come January 2018 but a price tag has yet to be confirmed.
