Inaugural Asean Games for E-Sports 2016 has been decided to be hosted in Malaysia from 18 – 20th March 2016. Team participation from member federation of ASEAN countries include Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia will ensure the event to be memorable, Malaysia is the first country to organise the event.
The top 3 games to be played at AGES2016 are Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA 2), FIFA 16 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). Sanctioning the event officially the Ministry of Youth & Sports Yang Berhormat Datuk M.Saravanan, Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports Malaysia launched the official logo for AGES2016 logo and witnessed the handing over of the RM1,000,000 prize money mock cheque by Platinum Eden Sdn Bhd to ESM, the highest ever pool prize money offered at any esports competition in the region so far.
Platinum Eden Sdn Bhd and Friends Worldwide are the official organizer and co-organiser for AGES2016, respectively. Apart from the gaming event, AGES 2016 will also organize an outdoor carnival at the venue that will feature many exciting booths, pocket-events and activities for the young and old. Admission to the carnival will be open to the general public while tickets to watch the competition will be available online soon. According to Dato’ Latt Shariman Abdullah, President for ESM, AGES2016 is the first and only event organized and fully sanctioned by ESM.
The body also acknowledged that the objective of organising such an event is to promote, develop and regulate the Esports industry with a vision to make Malaysia and the region as the world-class hub. ESM is an independent sports body incorporated under the purview and endorsement of the Ministry of Youth & Sports Malaysia.
It serves as the governing body for the sports discipline of electronic sports registered under Malaysia Sports Commissioner on 4th December 2014. Registration to participate and purchase tickets will soon be open online after the CNY holidays.
