Unlike most, if not all, the reviews that I’ve done where the products are sent to the labs, I had to go where this marvel was parked at. The MSI Vortex G65 is a setup that many gamers wish they could have. As soon as I laid my eyes on it, I knew I had to get down to business right away as I had limited time with it. This beast of a gaming machinery is a force to be reckoned with; read on to find out more.
Full Speed Ahead
The Vortex G65 is using a coveted Intel 6th Generation Core i7-6700k processor, which many have lauded its performance and overclocking capabilities. Personally, I don’t look at the processor when it comes to gaming. While it is important to know what you’re getting, but since I know that Vortex G65 is top of the line, I can be rest assured that it’s all good.
I do have to say I went in blind – I didn’t look up to any spec sheet prior to going to the MSI Malaysia office. I wanted it to be a surprise. And a surprise – to put it mildly – I got.
As I was running our usual range of benchmarks, I was stunned and blown away by the results. I wanted to reconfirm the numbers that I re-run another round of tests.
This beast was reading up to 2.5GB/s with its Super Raid 4 transfer speed! What does this mean for gaming? A multitude of possibilities! From opening up your applications at lightning speed to superfast in-game graphics loading, the Vortex G65 has certainly set the bar high when it comes to ready-to-play gaming desktops.
Size Doesn’t Matter
Traditionally, gaming desktop are perceived as clunky and heavy. This is definitely not the case with the Vortex G65.Don’t be deceived by its appearance. Despite its pint-sized exterior, what MSI has packed inside will blow you away.
Packing not one, but two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, along with the other top-of-the-class components inside such a small unit is no easy feat. Whoever designed the Vortex G65 must be really good in Tetris.
The unit is well ventilated surprisingly. Its Storm Cooling feature is not only able to maintain a low temperature, it is also practically silent. Even during overclocking and tinkering with the Vortex G65, the machine’s air flow isn’t as bad as I thought it’d be.
Honestly, with the dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 cards included, I feel there isn’t a need to overclock. There is that risk of reducing your GPU’s lifespan, and for such a premium priced set-up, hearts (and wallets) will be shredded if it happens.
With such an attractive design and insane performance, the Vortex G65 has an allure that has me smitten. I would have liked to spend more time to get to know the beast that’s hiding underneath that petite shell.
