Review: Dell G7 15

Rolling in the Deep

Dell has always been known to be one of the pioneers when it came to gaming laptops. Thanks to its largely popular Dell Alienware gaming laptop series, it has propelled Dell to one of the top gaming laptop brands to look out for. However, its G Series of gaming laptops are considered to be more of its mid-range selection of offerings, seeing as the Alienware series is just way too expensive. The wonderful thing about the Dell G7 15 is that it looks and feels premium while its pricing doesn’t mean you will have to break the bank.

Technologically Advanced

While the Dell G7 15 is much larger as many other brands’ flagship models, it still houses the NVIDIA Max-Q Design technology. More specifically, the NVIDIA GTX1060 graphics card. This is backed up with the 8th Generation Intel-Core processor, 16GB of DDR4 memory, as well as two storage units – a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. This allows the G7 15 to take on most eSports-ready titles like Dota 2, CS: GO, Fortnite, and PUBG.

Ready to Game

Putting all four games to the test, the G7 15 handled itself admirably. There were no signs of any lag, screen tearing, or stuttering. While frame rates aren’t expected to be spectacular, it was at a respectable amount between the mid-80s to 90s. It also helped that the display screen on the G7 15 was a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel. This allowed colours and imagery to be a lot brighter and vibrant than usual. Even movies ran great on the G7 15, although nothing compared to an actual TV made for it, but it gets the job done.

Great Keyboard Setup

The keyboard on the G7 15 is amazing; the keys are crisp and responsive with very little travel time. The keys are also evenly spaced out, which makes typing a lot more joyful. This means you wouldn’t even need an external keyboard plugged in as the keyboard on the G7 15 does the job well enough. Of course, all this is down to personal preference. If you’d prefer a much better overall experience, nothing beats an external keyboard.

Bring it Everywhere

One aspect of the G7 15 that is great is its size. Weighing at less than 3kg, it’s perfect for being transported around on your backpack. It’s also very slim at less than an inch when closed; this means there will be more space within your backpack for its power brick and cable. On the exterior, the G7 15 may not look like much but it definitely packs a mean punch.
