After months of teasing its fans and us alike, Razer officially announces the launch of the Razer Phone. With Razer is first and foremost a gaming brand, it seems only natural to create a gaming-centric smartphone. While some will consider Razer to be a newcomer into the smartphone scene, it’s phone sure doesn’t seem like one.

As leaks were already spilled out before its launch, it is confirmed that the Razer Phone will be carrying a 5.72-inch Quad HD (1440p) 120Hz UltraMotion display screen. Right off the bat, the Razer Phone is the first of any to carry a 120Hz display so you can bet it would be a beast when it comes to gaming. The screen also promises a wide colour gamut to deliver sharp, vibrant and lively colours, which will make gaming and videos so much easier on the eye.

Razer has always been known to break away from the mould and be different; the Razer Phone is their gateway to just that as it is one of the few top-tier smartphones without an edge-to-edge display. Instead, Razer places front-facing speakers on the top and bottom of its phone. And no, it’s not just any regular speakers; thanks to Dolby Atmos technology, the speakers provide a true cinematic audio experience with the aid of dual dedicated amplifiers.

With its acquisition of Nextbit, it’s no wonder the Razer Phone bears an eerie resemblance to the Nextbit Robin. Instead of having rounded edges, the Razer Phone is a literal rectangular, making its edges ‘razer’ sharp. It also takes a page out of the Razer Blade series with a matte-black finish on the back with the iconic triple-headed snake bathed in chrome. There will also be a Razer Phone Special Edition where 1,337 units will come with the green triple-headed snake logo instead.

Other specifications of the Razer Phone includes a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 8GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and the Adren0 540 GPU. It also comes with a near stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat but will be upgraded to the Android Oreo early next year. The Razer Phone will also feature the Nova Launcher Prime with Google Assistant Integration. This will give users greater customisability of the Android experience.

Sure, it strayed away from using an edge-to-edge display but the Razer Phone still has some 2017 influence with its dual-camera system. It’s rear camera has two 12-megapixel sensors with wide-angle and telephoto lens. The front-facing camera comes with a 7-megapixel sensor with wide-angle lens as well. To top it all off, the Razer Phone has a 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+.

The Razer Phone will also feature a USB Type-C port and no headphone jack; big surprise. It will also come with a THX-certified audio adapter with a 24-bit digital audio converter (DAC).

Sadly, there has been no announcement of its availability in Malaysia. However, if you’re in North America, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Denmark and Sweden, you’re in luck as reservations starts today in the selected countries. The Razer Phone will be officially available come 17 November 2017 at US$699.99 (RM2958.51).
