Microsoft’s latest venture unveils an app that allows users to rate how well their imitation skills are. Emoji8 allows users to imitate a random selection of emoji expressions and the software will then evaluate each attempt locally using the FER+ Emotion Recognition model, a neural network for recognizing emotion in faces.
Emoji8 starts with presenting an emoji to mimic and then analyzes the expression from the user’s computer’s webcam, then produces a percentage of accuracy.

“This app will give you a great end-to-end example of how you can use the Windows ML APIs to create simple yet magical experiences,” the company said.

The app also gives users the option of creating GIFs with their facial expressions and to share them on Twitter. The machine learning software from Microsoft goes to show how apt the app is in terms of being quick and flexible.

Emoji8 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store for free.
