PUBG Corp is filing a lawsuit against Epic Games for copyright violation. The Korea-based PUBG Corp is alleging copyright infringement, filing the injunction against Epic Games Korea. The Seoul Central District Court will decide if Epic Games have copied PUBG.

Epic Games’s Fortnite Battle Royale mode came out last September. It came after Fortnite’s original PvE ‘Free The World’ mode struggled to gain traction. PUBG publisher Bluehole already looked at the similarities between the games in September.

“We’ve had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG’s development as they are the creators of UE4, the engine we licensed for the game,” says Chang Han Kim, Bluehole VP and executive producer. Their concerns involve the ‘PUBG experience’ and how close Fortnite mimics it.

Bluehole had already said last September it isn’t Fortnite’s copying of the Battle Royale mode that was concerning. They say it’s only a problem as Epic make the PUBG engine and PUBG Corp pays Epic royalties for it. Furthermore, before Fortnite Battle Royale, the two had a good business relationship. Bluehole had been looking forward to working closer with Epic too.

Unfortunately, Bluehole as well as PUBG Corp weren’t happy how Epic used their name to promote Fortnite Battle Royale. That their business partner used their name for promotions had surprised as well as disappointed them. Gamers may have been led to believe that they’re officially involved in Fortnite.
