Playstation Plus Free Games Have Been Lacking; Here’s What I Think About It

Playstation Plus, PS’s online premium service basically lets you play online with your friends. Or non-existent friends. It’s been a staple for many a years now, and not many people have really thought about it. Gamers who want to play online, just have it. It renews automatically, and you don’t really think twice about it. What PS+ provides however, is discounts, deals, free games, and more. So it seems like it’s worth the money. Something Playstation also does is, every month, there will be 2-3 games that they just give away for free. Yeah, that’s right, for free. And it’s a good way to reward longtime Playstation gamers, because overtime, you’ll collect enough free games. And with those free games, you could practically never have to pay for a new one again.

That’s all fine and dandy. But what games are they really ‘giving away’ for free?

As of late, PS+ games have been sorely lacking. With the announcement of this months free games, I am still disappointed. For May, the free games that’ll be available to PS+ members is “What Remains Of Edith Finch”, and “Overcooked”. And not even Overcooked 2, just the first one. While of course, I understand giving away ‘free’ games to everyone seems too good to be true, if you’re going to do it, at least do it right. Overcooked is a good coop game, and I’m not bashing on it.”What Remains Of Edith Finch” is a pretty good award winning adventure game. But let’s be real, these games appeal to a very niche set of people.

Plus (haha get it?), PS has given away some pretty stellar games before for free. I’ve got Uncharted, The Division, Tekken, XCOM 2, Portal Knights, and a whole host of games. So why has it been that the last few months have been so lacklustre? In April, the games on PS+ was Conan Exiles, and The Surge. Great games right? OR are you like me and have literally never heard of them.

And that’s my point, Playstation seem to have been giving fans the cold shoulder as of late, in regards to Free Games every month. It’s a great thing that Sony basically gives out games for free, but considering that you have millions of subscribers, couldn’t you at least give us something a little more current? Or a game people actually want to play? Hopefully, they start giving gamers what they really want, rather than just pick out of a hat, and give them whatever it is. I mean, has Last Of Us ever been a free game of the month? I think that’ll be a good idea, considering the Last Of Us 2 is coming out soon. Just saying Sony, your move.
