Penang people who constitute the majority users of the Penang Bridge will receive 20% discount on toll if they chose to use the RFID lane.

PLUS Malaysia will be giving the discount for passenger cars only and for citizens on the Island, it noted even though the offer is for passenger cars, the numbers are 80% of total usage of the bridge. The discount will start in July with more details to be shared by PLUS and RFID management partner Touch N Go.

The purpose is to encourage in using more contactless options when using toll rather than having operators collecting payments, this also boded well with the current Covid 19 crisis the nation is facing. Under health guidelines, the less contact one has the lesser the chance of spreading the virus.

At the moment the going fees for using the Penang Bridge is RM5.74, after the discount is offered vehicle owners can expect to pay just RM4.59, this is currently being enjoyed by Touch N Go card users but will soon be extended to RFID users as well. With this PLUS expects to see smoother traffic flow and encourages more Penangites to use the technology to achieve its goal of an eventual zero manned toll booths.
