After the big reveal a day before Mobile World Congress opens, sharing the release date and opening pre-orders after; Samsung Malaysia has put together its highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S9 launch event. It’s a not-to-miss event for a number of reasons. Firstly, it kicks-off the road-show campaigns for the new Samsung smartphone flagship. Second – there will be on-spot bonuses when customers purchase a new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ at these events. Most importantly, it’s traditional for Samsung Malaysia to appoint a Korean superstar as a special guest for its launch events. In some cases, they become the local brand ambassador.

These are the roles Park Bo-Gum play when Samsung Malaysia confirmed his appearance for its Samsung Galaxy S9 launch. Notice of Park making his timely appearance at this mega roadshow comes just a few days before the event proper. As per tradition, fans started gathering at the launch venue, Pavilion KL, just so they can secure a good seat/position. Some have arrived as early as 9am to queue up.

For the entire evening, sounds of fans screaming their love for Park echo and thunder around the launch venue. Of course, fellow tech enthusiasts and Samsung fans pepper around the event as well, adding to the already packed location. Park’s star-power did not outdo the Samsung Galaxy S9 as the new flagship had its fair share of the limelight. Yonsoon Kim, President, Samsung Malaysia Electronics, took the stage earlier to discuss how Samsung re-imagines the camera for mobile devices.
“How we take photos and share them with friends and family – all that must become more seamless and intuitive. That’s why we pushed the boundaries of innovation for all the features on this new flagship,” shares Kim.
A quick recap: the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will respectively retail at RM3,299 and RM3,799 to RM4,399. The price variation for the latter is mostly dependent on what the user is going for in terms of specs. As for what’s powering the two, it rocks a Samsung Exynos 9810 Octa-Core Mobile CPU. Other key features include the Super Speed Dual Pixel and Dual Aperture 12-Megapixels shooter and an IP68 certified chassis. The key difference between both variants fall to the RAM and storage configuration, and the camera setup.
For the Samsung Galaxy S9, it runs on 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, coming only with one rear-facing camera lens. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ has three storage flavours that pair with the 6GB RAM. They are 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. As for the back-loaded snapper, it features a dual lens array. Check out the Samsung Galaxy S9 review to find out if it’s worth its asking price.
