All the leaks and official teasers from Samsung finally ends with the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ appearing. As per every Samsung Unpacked event, DJ Koh, President, Samsung Mobile, took the stage to talk about the new flagship.

Koh, and those that took part with the development of the Samsung Galaxy S9, drop loads and loads of details.

Firstly, Koh confirms that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is for users who want a smarter experience. This goes above and beyond the usual updates that most expect from a new smartphone.

Before going into the next-gen innovation specifics, let’s breakdown the necessities of this new flagship. Up front on the Samsung Galaxy S9, is a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display. Of course, it goes up to 6.2-inch for Samsung Galaxy S9+.

Underneath that is the Samsung Exynos 9810 Octa-Core mobile processor with 4GB RAM 64GB storage (up to 128Gb). Powering the device is a 3,500mAh battery. The larger variant packs 6GB RAM and 3,900mAh battery.

Now the fun bits – the main camera optics in the rear now sport the new variable aperture camera. It is a concept that, according to Samsung, automatically switches between f/1.5 and f/2.4 modes in different lighting conditions. The one key difference between the two variants is how the Samsung Galaxy S9+ will pack a dual-camera array. In terms of sensor size, both come in the 12-Megapixels flavour and will have a built-in DRAM reinforcing the system.

As for the front, an 8-Megapixels shooter – now with Selfie Focus and extra bells and whistles.

Sound performance, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ now support Dolby Atmos. This, when pairing with the side-firing stereo speakers, promises a proper immersive audio experience.

Of course, Samsung, in keeping its design promise, will ensure all these next-gen capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have adequate protection. Indeed, the next-gen flagships come with IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

One other new innovation Samsung put on the Samsung Galaxy S9 line-up is the Intelligent Scan. Combining both facial recognition and iris scanning, it provides the new Samsung flagship smartphones with better security. Both work in tandem to unlock the device and will also supplement each other when the other isn’t working properly.

Koh, at the event, confirms the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will reach retail stores on March 16 2018. Those who can’t wait to get their hands on it can pre-order them from March 1 2018 onwards.
