With both Canon and Olympus launching the first full frame mirrorless the other brand left in the elite DSLR camera segment is Panasonic. Since making brief development announcement at Photokina 2018, the Japanese electronic giant had introduced the full specifications of ow first full-frame Digital Single Lens Mirrorless cameras, the LUMIX S1R and S1, with a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor.
The models are based on the existing L-Mount lens which means interchanging them will be of no issue. Although late to the game, Panasonic has been dabbling with mirrorless for quite a while with the compact Lumix. A first on full frame, while the Lumix S1 sports a 24.2megapixel the Lumix S Series comes with remarkable ability like the video recording performance which is at 4K 60p/50p. The Lumix S1R however integrates a 47.3-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor giving it the industry’s highest level of resolution in the full-frame mirrorless cameras and a High Resolution mode to enable 187-megapixel ultra-high precision photo shooting.
Stable and fast, the models have the benefits of Panasonic’s advanced Contrast AF system with DFD technology that is able to achieve fast level of focusing speed and with adoption of Advanced AI Technology it can accurately recognise moving target subjects. Just like the Canon EOS R, Panasonic equips the series with tiltable colour monitor and a high-resolution Real View Finder.
Together with the launch, three new L Mount lenses were introduced.
Professional users can consider these new lenses made specifialy for the Lumix S series full frame.
- LUMIX S PRO 50mm F1.4 (S-X50) A large-aperture fixed focal length lens that forms the core of the LUMIX S Series of lenses
- LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F4 O.I.S. (S-R70200) A telephoto zoom lens that features high resolution with stunning clarity across the entire zoom range
- LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 MACRO O.I.S. (S-R24105) A versatile standard zoom lens with macro shot capability covering wide-angle to medium telephoto
That’s not all, the good news is Leica, Panasonic and Sigma are working on an alliance that will allow photographers to ‘mix and match’ any of the three manufacturers’ APS-C and full-frame cameras with any lens from each other’s product portfolios. The aim of the L-Mount Alliance is to provide customers with a diverse and future-proof range of products.
Panasonic has committed to designing and developing 10 or more lenses with a focus on “LUMIX S PRO” lenses by 2020.
