New Overwatch Hero Ashe Revealed in Thrilling Animated Short at BlizzCon 2018

As the opening ceremony wrapped up for this weekend’s BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard Entertainment revealed a new character that will be coming to Overwatch. The leader of the Deadlock Gang, Ashe, appeared in the game’s latest animated short, ‘Reunion’, as an acquaintance and rival of McCree.

Even if you aren’t invested in Overwatch’s lore, the parallels in this short to old westerns should be entertaining enough, especially with Red Dead Redemption 2 still being fresh in everyone’s minds.

Alongside this cinematic, Blizzard also released an introduction trailer for Ashe. Though we don’t officially know what she can do just yet, the gameplay shown gives us an idea of what to expect.

Ashe wields a long-ranged rifle, a sawed-off double barrel shotgun, and some dynamite. In the gameplay trailer shown, we see her using her rifle to pick off enemies from a distance.

Her shotgun displays more utility than power, helping her propel herself off the ground and even away from enemies rather than simply killing them.

Apart from being able to toss dynamite at unsuspecting foes, it also looks like Ashe can preemptively detonate them with a well-timed shot.

Lastly, Ashe’s Ultimate sees her summoning Bob, her lumbering but deadly goon that joins the battlefield for (hopefully) a brief period of time.

Judging from her gameplay, it looks like Ashe will act as a keepaway sniper of sorts, similar to Widowmaker. More details on her playstyle will likely be revealed over the weekend during BlizzCon, so stay tuned.

Overwatch is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
