One Piece and Nissin cup noodles, what could be more Japanese than that? Well they’ve crossed over, bringing One Piece to a typical slice-of-life anime setting with the main purpose of promoting these Nissin noodles. But don’t be fooled, these aren’t just any product plugs like any old commercial; these are special.
To me anyway.
They feature iconic scenes from various characters and the One Piece franchise set as if they were in high school in Japan. I figured it would feel corny as hell watching them, but honestly, they’re pretty great. The animation is fantastic and the tiny bit of story they compressed into 31 seconds told enough of a story that any One Piece fan can ‘piece’ together from various episodes and the manga.

These above were released months ago, and I had already seen them. But the latest addition to the One Piece x Nissin saga is their latest commercial they released just a few hours ago:

It depicts the Marineford Arc, which is one of the most recognisable and iconic scenes where they changed everything in the series. It’s one of the more ‘out there’ commercials in this style, but it works. The subtleties and animation is just simply amazing. Even if you weren’t a fan of the One Piece anime, surely you can appreciate the level of detail there is in the commercials.
All I know is, I would watch the hell out of a slice-of-life One Piece anime, and I never even thought of the concept. It’s just genius to me. And if it’s animated the same way these commercials are, it would totally be a hit. I’m not the only one who thinks these commercials are great:
