Instagram Adds A Feature Nobody Asked For & They’re Still NOT Going Back To Chronological Order

Another feature that Instagram has added to their app is the ability to sort through accounts you’re following by “Most shown in feed” and “Least interacted with”. Users will then be able to manage their follow status, notifications, or mute an account they don’t really want to see anymore. This adds on to their new GIF reply capabilities, so that’s something.

“Instagram is really about bringing you closer to the people and things you care about — but we know that over time, your interests and relationships can evolve and change,” the company said to The Verge.

“Whether you graduate, move to a new city, or become obsessed with a new interest and find a community, we want to make it easier to manage the accounts you follow on Instagram so that they best represent your current connections and interests.”

But to me, it highlights a few issues. Firstly, the fact that they’re still not working on a way to just show us Instagram post chronologically, as they’re posted. It just causes issues sometimes when I look at something that’s at the very top of my feed, but it was posted a day or a few hours ago. I don’t know why it bothers me, but it just does. Another thing with their algorithm as of now is that if someone saw your feed, they’d know what you look at most often. Which is not ideal.

Another issue with this is the potential scenario it could cause. Okay, think about it this way:

Girl: “Hey honey, could I check out your Instagram for a sec, I wanna see this new feature they added”

Guy: “Uhhh… Yeah sure babe, go ahead.

Girl: “WHY AREN’T I YOUR MOST SHOWN IN FEED. WHO IS THIS GRACE B**** AND WHY IS SHE NUMBER 1 DO YOU EVEN LOVE ME ANYMORE WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH YOU I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’VE DONE THIS TO ME. MY MOM WAS SOOOO RIGHT ABOUT YOU I SHOULD’VE NEVER EVEN GIVEN YOU A CHANCE IF I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO STAB ME IN THE BACK LIKE THIS. YOU’RE SO UNGRATEFUL AFTER EVERYTHING I’VE DONE FOR YOU”

Etc, etc.

You get what I mean.

Or you could just use the feature to look at who you barely check, unfollow, see which friends you haven’t spoken to in a while, stuff like that. It’s a cute little feature, but I seriously don’t think anyone will use it vehemently enough to justify it being a thing.

The update is now coming out to Android and iOS so you should already have it. If you can see it, just close the app and restarting it, and it should be there. It might be slower for Android users, but I’m using a Vivo right now and I’ve already gotten it so expect it soon.

Comment what you think!
