oBike’s Global Business Partnership Programme (GBPP) has successfully forged partnerships in Malaysia. Launching in Johor Bahru in January, the programme is now active in Klang Valley, Cyberjaya, Melaka and Kampar.
Partnering with local businesses and universities for its on-ground operations and maintenance works, there are currently 8 GBPP partners in Malaysia, with the number of partners set to grow in the upcoming months as the programme gains more traction.
Partners include the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (in Klang Valley) and Pagoh Education Hub (in Pagoh). The GBPP will be based on a revenue-sharing model with the schools and its students, where the former will assign its student entrepreneur club members to manage and maintain the bikes. It also has partnered up with local businesses, including a bicycle shop at Kampar for repairs and maintenance work.
GBPP aims to harness the expertise and resources of local businesses in better managing oBike operations through timely deployment, redeployment and maintenance of the bikes. oBike strives to boost business and employment benefits in the local communities that it operates in, ultimately translating into an enhanced user experience.
Since inception in January 2017, oBike has seen tremendous growth, now operating in over 60 cities across 23 countries. oBike’s GBPP introduces an alternative and more localised business model to manage its large-scale operations. The approach of GBPP is to decentralise operations into hubs that can be managed more efficiently by the local partners.
