The Ministry of Health has discovered a new Covid-19 cluster worryingly in the heart of town or more specific in the Bukit Bintang area.
In today’s briefing, Deputy General Health, Dr Noor Hisham reported another single digit positive case of 9 involving mostly foreigners. Malaysia has been seeing a trend of local transmission reduced to low figures with the potential of achieving zero in a couple of days. However, the foreign population in the country are the high cases at the moment. With the new cluster identified in the dense city location, further spreads is now a concern.
Bukit Bintang zone has been an active playground for migrants and with the report of new cluster, city folks will dread if the area goes into lockdown (EMCO). MOH is keeping an eye on the situation with the 9 Bangladeshi and 1 Malaysian who are part of the cluster. Active contact tracing is under way and containment process has also been deployed.
PDRM have been rounding up foreign individuals in the area under the Ops Benteng action to repatriate illegal migrants, this has caused many going into hiding giving the health officials a more difficult time in tracing.
