Pikom the non-governmental body for ICT vendors in Malaysia, has just concluded its annual general meeting and has announced new leadership in the ranks including the top post.

Both chairman and deputy have new faces with former MOL CEO Ganesh Kumar Bangah  taking the reigns from Chin Chee Seong as Pikom Chairman for the next two years. Epson  Malaysia General Manager, Danny Lee was elected as Deputy Chairman. Ganesh will also hold the role as Chairman of e-Commerce Malaysia an initiative started by the agency.

Pikom more popularly known for its PC Fair sales has been on the receiving end from its members for its lack of creativity in addressing the plight of ICT vendors who have been seeing declining sales over the years. Most have accused the association of not doing enough and others were struggling with the proliferation of online eCommerce sites. Some have even questioned the relevancy of the association at this juncture and have pulled out as members.

The Come Back

Before the appointment, Ganesh Banghah was instrumental in guiding Pikom to be involved in MDEC’s once a year online sales program MyCybersale. As the official organiser, the association is making a come back and progressing in the digital era and will see it playing a bigger role in the coming years as a key partner with the government agency tasked to transform the nation towards digitalisation. The new chairman has called for members to be more savvy in the new digital revolution sweeping across the globe and wants Pikom to play a pivotal role in enabling these companies.

“Be it funding, networking, international business platforms, market access, technology access, award recognition, Pikom is the gateway to these and more. We want to engage more companies and bring them into the fold so they may benefit from Pikom’s unique positioning between government and industry, local and international platforms and between technology producers and technology consumers. We are certainly looking for fresh ideas from industry players towards building a more robust and competitive ICT industry across the value chain” Ganesh added.

Given a second chance, the 31 year old association has a golden opportunity to become the bridge linking ICT business community, Government and the public and at the same time make the country vibrant, secure and thrive in the expanding fields of digital economy.
