Disney will be taking back rights to all its Marvel assets as it gets ready to aggressively move into the streaming business taking on the likes of Amazon, Hulu and Netflix. With funded series like Luke Cage, Iron Fist Daredevil already chopped Netflix now confirms cancellation of Punisher and Jessica Jones.
The partnership that began in 2013 just as Neflix was expanding its wings beyond US, the new Marvel franchise gave the streaming platform a much needed push capturing eyeballs across the world from audiences who could relate to the popular comic characters. Disney+ will be debuting late this year and the entertainment giant would want to hold on to its biggest show for itself.
But Netflix will not be heartbroken with the breakup, the company has strings of hits in its arsenal like Black Mirror and Stranger Things which hold on their own, there are also plans for more superhero flicks in the pipeline. More comic book adaptation is coming including the recent release of Umbrella Academy.
