NetEase Games, the online games division of NetEase Inc, has confirmed that Destiny: Rising, a new free-to-play sci-fi RPG set in an alternate Destiny timeline, will launch globally on Aug 28 for iOS and Android devices.
The mobile title introduces a new story arc in the Destiny universe, taking place before the events of the original game. Players will assume the role of the “Wolf,” a fully customisable Lightbearer, or play as established characters such as Ikora Rey and Iron Lord Jolder.
The game incorporates familiar mechanics from the franchise, looter-shooter missions, PvP, and six-player PvE strikes, while introducing new game modes and a Mythic-tier loot system.
Pre-registration is now open via the App Store and Google Play. According to NetEase, more than five million users have already signed up, unlocking in-game launch rewards, including 10 free draws.
The title marks a significant mobile expansion for the Destiny franchise, which has traditionally found success on PC and consoles.
