MyCybersale 2017 Shatters Previous Years Sales Record

Online shopping is gone into hyper drive this year and with anything to go by the 11.11 sales organised by eCommerce giant Alibaba is proof that’s its here to stay…for a long long time. The Chinese site recorded US$44 billion in sales in just 24 hours, breaking its previous year record. In Malaysia, we have our own big sale hosted by MDeC and this year organised by Pikom, they to saw record sales.

This year MyCybersale 2017 chalked up total gross merchandise revenue of RM300 million being its biggest sales ever  since inception in 2014. The five day event which started on the 9th of October manged to exceed the RM300 million set as target made possible with the increased in merchants who joined the sale.

About RM39 million of the RM311 million were derived from international shoppers, surpassing the export revenue target of RM20 million. A a phenomenal growth of over 254 per cent from the 2016 export revenue of RM11million.

Other records set were the doubling of the number of exporting merchants to 497 this year, compared with just 260 in 2016. In total, more than 1,007 online merchants participated in the sale 22 retail categories as compared with just 607 in the previous year. Among partners who made the event successful include Lazada, Mastercard, Fusionex, iPay88, Skynet, Shopee. Maybank, TM, Celcom, MAS.

 

This year also marks MDEC passing over the reign for private sector to lead on the initiave, noting this CEO Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, quipped “We are delighted with the results achieved, especially with the strong sales from the international consumers. The achievement of all targets proves that MyCybersale 2017 has been successfully handed over to the private sector.”
