MTV’s Punk’d Is Getting A Reboot With Chance The Rapper As Host & No, You’re Not Getting Punk’d

If you were born anywhere between the late 80s and mid 90s, you grew up during the golden years of MTV. Let’s face it, the music television network had a slew of iconic tv shows that provided viewers with gems such as MTV Cribs, Pimp My Ride, Room Raiders and My Super Sweet Sixteen.

One of the most iconic and entertaining TV shows to come out of this era is Punk’d. The hidden camera–practical joke reality TV show, hosted by none other than Ashton Kutcher, gave us all a glimpse into the off camera lives of celebrities and bridged the divide between the stars being punk’d and fans by showing all of us that celebrities can freak out and break down just like we do.

The new show, which is being revived by Quibi, will see Grammy award winning artiste Chance the Rapper take over the hosting role.

Punk’d is one of MTV’s most iconic franchises,”  “I grew up watching this show and it’s surreal to be in the driver’s seat this time around on Quibi.”

– Chance the Rapper

The reboot was originally announced last year in June, with the new version set to consist of 10-minutes or less segments. Scheduled to debut on the 6th of April, the first season will comprise of roughly “20 or so” episodes and will be produced by STXtelevision alongside MTV Studios. Interestingly enough, Chance will not only be hosting the show but will also lend his hand in production by taking up an executive producer role as well.

Quibi is an upcoming American short-form mobile video platform headquartered in Los Angeles, California, founded in 2018 by Jeffrey Katzenberg and scheduled to launch on April 6, 2020. The streaming platform has been busy of late, picking up rights to not just Punk’d but also Nickelodeon’s Legends of the Hidden Temple, 50 Cent’s black superhero series Trill League, and Eric Andre’s Rapper Warrior Ninja spin-off.

Do you guys think the reboot will be able to live up to the original, especially without Ashton Kutcher? Let us know in the comments!
