Management and Science University (MSU) professors and lecturers alike now have more reason to be proud of their esteemed university as three of their students walked away with a combined RM 10,000 in prize money for finishing second in the Huawei Nova 3/3i Apprentice Program. The program, which was launched in conjunction with the Nova 3 Campus roadshow, not only awards scholarships totalling up to RM 30,000 to participants but also offers the possibility of internship opportunities at Huawei.
With so much on offer, it’s no surprise that there was an overwhelming reception to the Apprentice Program but alas, there could only be 3 winners. MSU’s entry to the competition, submitted by three of their Marketing major students, cultivated in a heartwarming display of unity, racial harmony and made us feel proud to be Malaysian. The team, consisting of Muralithevan a/l selvathevan, 25, Amirul Hakimi bin Nurul Adam, 21 and Muhammad Malik Fahd bin Ahmad Faisal, 25 were over the moon when they found out that they won a cool RM 10,000 and saying that they were initially surprised as they had not expected to win but felt extremely grateful to their professors, faculty members and lecturers, all of whom helped them out immensely. When asked about the inspiration behind their idea to highlight the multicultural aspect of Malaysia, it was almost poetic how the three of them answered unity in unison. With their hashtag being #HuaweiUnites, they felt that the many different places of worship in Malaysia would best highlight the racial diversity of our country.
I suppose it is fitting then, that all three students have more or less the same plans when it comes to what they’re going to be doing with their prize money. The dynamic trio have their minds set on allocating a portion of their winnings for their family, with the rest of the money going into future investments. I don’t know if it’s MSU that has cultivated this family first mindset into these kids but it sure does reflect well.
Abdul Jalil bin Ghazali, Vice President of MSU had this to say on his students achievements
“We were very excited about it and of course they (the students) too were very happy. In MSU, we always encourage our students to participate in these competitions and join events such as this as it will improve their competitiveness. As a university, we cultivate an industry embedded program where students are exposed in their respective industries to see what real life is all about. At the end of the day, we strive to build very well balanced, holistic and well rounded graduates. Our Global Mobility Program is testament to that as it will expose them to the world and allow them to not only see the diversity of culture but also the diversity of life.”
With an internship at Huawei a possibility for these students, I think it’s safe to say we’ve yet to hear the last from them.
