While we have a range of Moto phones, ranging from the Z, M and G5 to fit most of the markets – one segment is suspiciously missing from Motorola‘s repertoire. That segment is the affordable segment. A new report states that Motorola may be in the midst of rectifying that problem. The new Moto models – the Moto C and Moto C Plus will be affordable, yet carry all the goodness of the Motorola brand.

Design wise the Moto C and C Plus will follow the previously launched Moto G5 – at least in design. What differentiates the phone with the rest of the range are specs. Both models will have a 5-inch display with two different resolution – the C boasts a WVGA resolution of 854 x 480, while the C Plus steps it up to 1280 x 720 HD. Both phones will have 4G LTE, but only the C will have 3G capability.

MediaTek will be the SoC of choice for the C series, with the lower model running a 32bit-enabled processor, while the higher tier will have access to 64bit processing. ALl of them will have quad-core processors by the way. RAM and storage is where the news gets a little bit iffy. The Moto C will have 1GB of RAM (what?) while the C Plus will have between 1GB and 2GB, depending on the market served. Again, the C will have the lower specced storage – with a storage option of either 8Gb or 16GB for select markets, while the C Plus will come with only 16GB. No news for microSD, but we can expect one to be in the phone.

Imaging will be served by a 5-megapixel rear shooter for the Moto C and an 8-megapixel unit for the C Plus. Both phones will get the same 2-megapixel selfie shooter. Juicing everything is a 2350mAh battery for the C, and the C Plus nearly doubles that to a hefty 4000mAh.

No news of pricing, but we may see this model come to the Malaysian market – at least the C Plus. Will it sell and boost the Moto name? We have to wait and see.
