Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2019 was packed with a lot of different and frankly, interesting stories. We’re here to round up the event and see what’s the most interesting of the lot. Some of the companies we covered that did something of note were Microsoft, Huawei, Samsung and Xiaomi.
Microsoft –
Microsoft unveiled the HoloLens 2 at MWC 2019. It was a vastly improved version of it’s predecessor with better Field of View and not needing controllers for the headset. However, the HoloLens 2 would be starting at $3500 (RM 14,200 approx) and would be for enterprises rather than consumers. 3D designing and such would be the focus of the Mixed Reality headset.
Huawei –
Huawei was one of the major players at MWC. They announced their new foldable phone the Huawei Mate X. The phone is one of the more innovative releases at MWC. It sports an 8 inch fully opened display and is also 5G compatible.
The 5G component was a huge part of MWC and the Mate X actually uses the Balong 5000 modem chipset. Other than that, Huawei and Maxis actually signed a memorandum of understanding as a validation of their partnership. This will help Malaysia to accelerate 5G infrastructure in Malaysia.
Samsung –
Samsung had already announced the Samsung Fold earlier before MWC. But at the event Samsung unveiled the S10 which is 5G compatible. Samsung also brought out the big guns in educating consumers and the like about 5G. They ran booths that showed real-world usage experiences with live demonstrations.
Xiaomi –
Xiaomi also came out guns blazing. They introduced their first 5G ready phone, the Mi MIX 3 5G. The phone comes with a Snapdragon 855, 3800 mAh battery and a 6.39 inch display. Adding to the lineup, they announced the Mi 9 for global markets. The Mi 9 features an AI triple camera, 20W wireless charging and has a Snapdragon 855.
