From May 1 onwards, people in Petaling Jaya can pay for parking through the Smart Selangor Parking app. It would mean motorists can pay for parking digitally, removing the need to use physical parking tickets. MBPJ will be testing the first phase of the parking app in Dataran Sunway.

The Smart Selangor Parking app will be available for download on April 23 on both the App Store and Google Play. To use it, users will have to create an account and top up at least RM10. The launch of the app sees no change in parking rates; they remain at RM0.60/hour, RM5/day, and RM100/month, between 8am and 6.30pm.
The app alerts users when the parking time limit is up. Users also only need the street name of where they parked when paying for parking. To pay or top up, they can do it from wherever they are. Users can also check for fines through the app. MBPJ officers will only need to scan the vehicle registration number or key it into the parking app to check if the parking fees has been paid.
“With this system, there is no reason why motorists should not pay for parking,” says Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Aziz, mayor of Petaling Jaya. He adds that he hopes that the app will help ease parking issues in Dataran Sunway. Datuk Mohd Azizi is also sure that the parking app can assist MBPJ officers in doing their jobs.
As for pay-and-display machines currently in service, they will be phased out after the app’s introduction. The two ways for paying for parking will be through the app or scratch coupons. Parking concessionaire Godell Parking Sdn Bhd already had their services terminated by MBPJ earlier this year.
Leading Innovative Technologies and Systems Sdn Bhd are in charge of developing the Smart Selangor Parking app, along with Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated. Shah Alam City Council, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, and Sepang Municipal Council are also using a version of the app.
