Maxis Owners ‘Will Be Punished’ Claims Indian Chief Justice

While the ongoing trial of Aircel in Indian courts comes to a respite with the judge coming to a conclusion and dropping all charges on Telecom Minister Dayadhini Maran his brother and others involved in the countries massive corruption scandal in spectrum allocation, Maxis the holding company behind Aircel is not off the hook, yet.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court justice was seen as being upset over the no-show of Maxis owners and directors, both Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan and Ralph Marshall were absent despite a court order asking them to appear. The chief judge accused Ananda of not respecting the law of the country and the Supreme Court insisting to ‘punish him’ for his conduct. In ensuring there is no absconding from debt,  the court is insisting the responsibility lies on Maxis as 100% owners of Aircel and not Aircel represent at the bench rather Ananda should be there at the hearings.

The courts is considering auctioning the assets of Aircel-Maxis for the government to recoup and pay debts instead of allowing a merger with Reliance which was initially planned. The outcome does not bode well for the billionaire tycoon and his reputation who is currently avoiding entry to India where he could face arrest. Both himself and commander in chief Ralph Marshall have been embroiled in fraud cases with Maxis and Astro in India and Indonesia.
